The Orator is the story’s guide. They have the job of setting up plot devices and driving the world outside of the player characters. This is a simplistic guide to… well Guiding!

Language is key to agency!

This game is not defined on how the orator’s tell actors what their characters are feeling.

The Orator may state what effects are applied to the characters such as “you are poisoned with a toxin that causes severe pain” and it is up to the actor to decide if their character feels that pain and to what intensity. The mechanics of a detriment will still apply regardless of how the character perceives them.

Orators must never tell the actors how their characters feel, act, or think; even if it’s to give a description! This can be incredibly tough to get used to so give yourself time and patience!

Plot Points

Define plot points that you want the characters to experience, then set up ways for them to get to those points meaningfully.

Always be sure to communicate with the other players on what you’re looking for when they are interacting with the world as nobody likes a “got’cha moment” of “you did not say [SPECIFIC WORD]” when they were never given direction for that word.
